Gender differences in wage expectations

By conducting its own survey on the salary expectations of students at two Swiss higher education institutions, the article checked the interviewees' salary expectations along two main lines. First, the article investigated the reasonableness of wage expectations by comparing the average expected wages in the sample with the average expected wages of similar graduates; in addition, the article also studied how its interviewees modified them when providing information about actual wages Expectations. Secondly, using causal intermediary analysis, the article tests whether a rich set of personal and professional controls, including preferences for family formation and the number of children, and professional preferences, can explain the differences in wage expectations of different genders.
